IS by email
September 27, 2007 by webmaster
Dear Imam Talal Eid,
Asslamu alaikum. I want to thank you for meeting with us on Saturday. I cannot express in words how greatful I am towards you. The knowledge that you passed on to us is invaluable. Not only did you answer questions that Jason asked, but you answered a lot of questions that he didn’t even know that he had.
The meeting was also very beneficial for me. I went home on Sunday and spoke to my parents about the meeting and discussed some of the things we had talked about. We ended up having quite a long and pleasant discussion.
Thank you for letting us borrow the Quran with the commentary and books. We are both looking forward to reading them. I will keep in touch, and I’m sure Jason will be in touch with you soon as well.
Thank you again,
IS

Imam Talal Eid,
I read a article about your ministry in the Patriot Ledger today. I remembered when you first came to the Mosque in Sharon and I invited you to speak at the Unitariam Church. You graciously accepted following the Prophet Mohammad’s tradition. Since then I have been reading the Koran and have attempted to inform myself about your
religion. I wish to thamk you belatedly for enhancing my spritual growth.
In gratitude,
Beverly Wilkins

Appointment: US Commission on International Religious Freedom
May 14, 2007 by iteid
Respected Members of the Community,
Assalamu Alaikum:
I believe many of you have heard about the news of my appointment.
The nature of the appointment involved among other things, four overseas trips, a monthly meeting of the Commission in Washington, DC, and an hour monthly conference call. I am hoping, with the help of Allah and your support, that my Muslim voice in the national decision-making can make a difference.
My first trip with the Commission is visiting Saudi Arabia in June. From there I will join an American delegation (Department of State) in Romania for a conference, dealing, in to other issues, with the tratment and discrimination against the Muslim community there.
Afterwards there are planned trips to Vietnam and Indonesia. I will soon be planning to work on establishing a board of advisots from out respected community members to help me deal with issues that concern Islam and Muslims. My normal activities will be resumed accounrding to my schedule and helpers will be appointed in my absence.
Kindly keep me in your prayers. Below are links with more details:
US CIRF: Argue, Cromartie, Eid, and Leo Appointed to Commission
Patriot Ledger: Quincy Imam Makes History: First Muslim cleric named to U.S. Commission
Boston Globe: Quincy Imam Becomes first Muslim cleric on US Religion Panel

Re: Milton Interfaith Forum on Oct. 23, 2006.
Imam Eid:
Thankyou so much for your involvement in the forum. Your contribution was much appreciated as I think you could tell. I even heard someone repeat your analogy about 40 neighbors in 4 directions at a meeting last night of a local peace group. Your distinction between religion, politics and social conditions was also well received. I enjoyed the interaction between you and Charles late in the meeting and would have liked to have heard more dialogue on that. Perhaps the synthesis might have sounded like this:
“Extremism” is perhaps a better word than “fundamentalism”. I think there is both religious and political extremism and that often one feeds the other resulting in destructive and violent means to achieve an end. And it is poverty and injustice that feed both forms of extremism. If one can create a moral rationale within ones religious framework, then it helps to justify a violent response to injustice and of course there are those individuals who will use religious justification to manipulate people towards violence for political ends.
